The division of musculoskeletal imaging currently consists of dedicated musculoskeletal faculty from four of the teaching hospitals at the University of Toronto:
- Joint Departments of Medical Imaging at Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH) and the University Health Network (UHN): comprising the Toronto Western, Toronto General and Princess Margaret Hospitals
- St. MIchael's Hospital
- Hospital for Sick Children
The division of musculoskeletal imaging comprehensively covers the full spectrum of musculoskeletal disease processes. These include sports medicine, trauma, oncology, pediatric, arthritic and specialist orthopedic and rheumatologic referrals. A wide range of CT, fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided interventional techniques are performed including biopsies, aspirations, discograms, arthrograms, facet joint and nerve root injections.
The Hospital for Sick Children is internationally renowned for pediatrics. Princess Margaret and Mount Sinai Hospitals are the principle musculoskeletal oncology referral centres in Canada. Women’s College Health Sciences Centre and St Michael’s Hospitals are busy major trauma centres for Toronto. The Toronto Western Hospital has a special interest in hand, foot and ankle surgery. Sports medicine and joint arthroplasty are focuses of interest at all the sites. Each of the institutions has state of the art imaging equipment in all modalities.
The University of Toronto has excellent clinical and research programs in orthopedic surgery, rheumatology and oncology, with active participation by the members of the division of MSK imaging. Collaboration for imaging research in MSK diseases is available with the downtown imaging physics group at MSH-UHN.
